The Wall Street Journal came out with the prediction that the GOP would carry the day on the upcoming midterm elections. Small wonder, now that the once venerable financial newspaper is now owned by Rupert Murdock, the British tabloid/paparazzi mogul, and his minions at News Corp.

It seems that everything that he touches turns into an extreme, radical right wing enterprise. Balanced and impartial news coverage ‘be damned’.

I still am amazed how this Australian/American can hold such sway on so many of our citizens, in light of the disgrace he has managed to bring to his publications in GB.Jack 2012 cropped

Keep coming back!!

Last Saturday I watched the debate between John Lewis and Ryan Zinke, candidates for Montana’s lone seat in the US House of Representatives. Much of the debate focused on the Affordable Care Act. Mr. Lewis’s contention was that the health care reform bill provided insurance to many Americans that otherwise would not be able to afford it. He conceded that the program had some weaknesses that could be resolved by diligent bipartisan legislation.

Mr. Zinke believes that the health care act should be repealed outright. Then, if (and that is a BIG if) the GOP should tackle health care reform, he would support a provision that would address the problem of pre-existing conditions.

At the end of the debate each candidate was allotted two minutes to sum up their respective positions. During Ryan Zinke’s summation he intoned the Presidents full name, Barack Hussein Obama.  As he said his name, his lips seemed to turn down and his eyes narrowed as if to focus on a target. All I could think of was that he had destruction on his mind. It made me wonder what his thoughts are about our nations president.

  •  Is he a citizen of the United States?
  • Is he an Islamic extremist?
  • Is he not qualified to be our President even though the people of our nation have elected him twice?

Did he make the decision to use the middle name of President Obama himself? Or was it the decision of his big bucks handlers from the East Coast? Either way, I think that it was a cheap shot and disrespectful of our nations leader. I like to think that Montanans are better than that, no matter what side of the aisle they are on.Jack 2012 cropped

Keep coming back!!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to shake hands and speak a few words with US Senate candidate Amanda Curtis. It was at a rally on the campus of Montana State University.

Meeting a candidate, who has benefited from Pell Grants to get a higher education, who still owes about 20 Grand on her student loans, who is paying a mortgage on her modest home, was quite a refreshing experience.

Her talk was short and to the point.

I think that, unlike her opponent multimillionaire Steve Daines, she is not in the pockets of such organizations as the Koch Brother’s Americans for Prosperity (the brothers prosperity), the US Chamber of Commerce, or Karl Rove and his big bucks buddies from the beltway.

Her grassroots campaign brings a breath of fresh air back into Montana politics.Amanda Curtis

Ryan Zinke, far right GOP candidate for congress, spends most of his time bragging about having been a Navy Seal team leader. He even seems to suggest that he was somewhat involved in the capture of Osama bin Ladin. He rides around our state in a big bus emblazoned with the emblem of the Navy Seals.

I would think that with all of his ‘Bluff and Bluster’ he would jump at the chance to debate his opponent John Lewis. But, NO, he uses the limp excuse of ‘scheduling difficulties’ to back out of such a tough confrontation.

Where is the Macho in that?Jack 2012 cropped

Keep coming back!!

A couple of days ago I received another propaganda piece from Rep. Daines extolling about how wonderful he is. Again, it was about how good he is to vets. Again, you and I, as tax payers, paid to have this piece prepared, published and mailed. His campaign slogan includes the words ‘Less Government’. He talks about wanting less government, yet he has that same government spend thousands upon thousands of dollars for this campaign flyer. The man speaks with forked tongue.

This particular flyer shows him commiserating with a group of Marine Corps vets, with the caption “Rep. Steve Daines discusses veterans issues with Marine Corps veterans”. The Montana Marine Corps League claims that this discussion never happened. If that is the case, I’ll assume that our Rep. Daines is an outright liar. To me, that is not surprising.Jack 2012 cropped

Keep coming back!!

A couple of weeks ago I received a mailer from Steve Daines my multimillionaire representative in congress. It had something to do about how he is a friend of veterans. Yet, he voted to shut down the government, voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act many times (which has been highly beneficial to families of many veterans). He supports the Ryan budget plan which hurts Medicare and Medicaid, programs that many veteran families depend upon. It didn’t make much sense to me.

THEN, I noticed that this blatant piece of campaign propaganda was paid for by you and me.

Here is this rich guy, with his campaign coffers overflowing, backed by the likes of  Karl Rove and his big bucks buddies from the Beltway,     demanding that we pay for some of his election drivel.

Daines & Vets 1

Commissioner Adam Silver of the NBA really brought the hammer down  on LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling. It really presents a very strong message to owners of sports franchises, business leaders, politicians and educators, that bigotry in any form cannot be tolerated.

Our nation has  come a long way since President Johnson’s civil rights legislation. Obviously, we still have a long way to go. Isn’t it time that we accelerate our progress?Jack 2012 cropped

  Keep coming back!!

A couple of weeks ago our Rep. Steve Daines (now running for the Senate) was ballyhooing about how much money he raised during the last reporting period. He neglected to tell us how much of that money came from out-of-state.

I understand that Donald Trump is a major supporter of Daines. I wonder how much money Karl Rove and his big bucks buddies from the beltway are putting into his coffers. And then there are the likes of the Koch brothers and their minions most likely contributing vast amounts into the fray.

Of course we have the Koch’s Americans for Prosperity, Rove’s American Crossroads PAC and others launching attack ads on Daines opponent, John Walsh.

I’d like to see a campaign financed by Montanans for Montanans.Jack 2012 cropped

Keep coming back!!

It seems that Ol’ Rush Limbaugh, a confirmed prescription drug addict, is having a hard time holding onto sponsors. I think that folks are getting tired of listening to his vitriolic meanderings regarding anything Obama.

President Obama has been able to get things done, including extricating our nation from two very costly wars, healthcare reform, stimulus programs that have helped the country get back on track after the disastrous financial debacle of the previous administration and a small degree of reform of our financial institutions.

All of this in spite of relentless stonewalling by the GOP.Jack 2012 cropped
